New Works by Lina Nordenström & Lars Nyberg

This two-person exhibition will showcase Lina Nordenström's artist books and delicate relief prints alongside Lars Nyberg's wonderful drypoints.

Lars Nyberg's drypoints depict a variety of subjects: street scenes, winter trees, plants, and abstract architectural elements. The commonality between these is a quiet isolation as silent and peaceful as the winter scenes they depict. For Nyberg, there is something unpredictable about working with drypoint - the inscribed lines live their own lives. It is important "to learn by listening and give room for the importance of emptiness and the strength of silence in a small copperplate."

Lars Nyberg studied at the Royal College of Fine Art in Stockholm, and now exhibits internationally across Europe, Japan, and the USA. He is also featured in the private collections of H.M King Carl XVI Gustaf and H.R.H Crown Princess Victoria. In 2005 Nyberg curated and organized a collaboration between the National Gallery of Ireland and Graphic Studio gallery resulting in two major exhibitions.

Lina Nordenström focuses on work connected with maps. As well as using your eyes, the white outline maps of relief printing makes it possible to read her embossed 'maps' with your fingers too. The literary word inspires her also, with many of her works circling around the book as a symbol. Her artist books offer an alternative exhibition space, and provide a concrete picture of how to embrace literature with the sense of entering another reality as it gradually emerges page by page.

Lina Nordenström studied at Gothenburg University, the Royal University College of Fine Art, and the College of Printmaking Arts in Stockholm where she now teaches. She has had solo exhibitions around Europe and participated in group exhibitions in Brazil, China, and the USA. This year, Nordenström collaborated with architect Bengt Isling on the decoration and design of Moa Martinsons square, as well as contributing to Fyrislund bus depot near Uppsala.
