Burcu Dundar Venner
Burcu Dundar Venner is a Kildare based visual artist, printmaker, graphic designer and academic.
Educated in graphic design at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in Istanbul, Burcu became a member of the university’s academic staff in 2002. She completed her MA and then her doctorate at the same university and taught there as an associate professor until her relocation to Ireland in 2018. During her academic career she specialised
in editorial design, typography and graphic design history. As an academic she led workshops, held five personal exhibitions, published articles and curated exhibitions.
In 2011, her critically acclaimed first book The Book Object, The Book as an Object was published in Turkey. Since her relocation to Ireland, Burcu changed the focal point of her practice to the visual arts, using diverse media, mainly printmaking. Burcu is a full member of Graphic Studio Dublin.
Her recent work builds around the idea of wildscapes and also individual representations of nature’s elements. She is interested in deconstructing the existing contextual relationship of her subjects from the natural world in order to make them more ‘visible’ to the spectator. She is inspired by her surrounding environment in the Irish midlands where she lives.
