Julie Ann Haines
Julie Ann Haines was born in Belfast and completed a Visual Studies course in Manchester followed by a BA Honors degree in Fine Art Painting at Norwich School of Art. She has a PGCE from the Institute of Education in London and taught art there for several years while continuing to make her own work. She first encountered Russian icon painting on an art school trip to Moscow & St Petersburg in the late 80’s and strong central motifs have featured in her compositions ever since.
Parts of the built environment that inspire her work tend to be quiet, isolated, old and still and the most modest of structures often end up taking centre stage. She first developed a serious interest in printmaking through attending night classes at the Graphic Studio Dublin and started making multi plate colour etchings. Since becoming a full member of the studio she exhibits nationally and abroad and her work can be found in the collections of the Arts Council of N. Ireland, University of Limerick and Fingal & Meath County Councils amongst others.
