Ideas developed from his relationship with the surrounding environment, providing the imagery for these new works. Naessens' use of colour and scale creates a close up of rural life in Kerry. He captures the poetic character of his natural surroundings and vernacular buildings.
Naessens effectively conveys a more intimate view of the vastness of the landscape by reducing and simplifying his subject matter.
Niall Naessens graduated from NCAD, and has worked as a professional printmaker at Graphic Studio Dublin for many years. He moved to Kerry in 2004 where he continues to work on his etchings and paintings. His work is included in many national and international collections and has been exhibited in Chester Beatty Library and National Gallery of Ireland.
