Louise Leonard
The exhibition focuses on the quiet, everyday life of public green spaces: towpaths along canals, parkland, and formal gardens as shared havens within the city and beyond. Custodian includes views of St Stephen’s Green, where the pavilion is captured, alongside stretches of the Royal Canal near the artist’s home. These prints continue Louise Leonard’s exploration of light, water, and nature, as well as the subtle rhythms of public space.
Among the works is an image of a woman on a bicycle, caught mid-movement in a seemingly carefree moment, evocatively titled Stay in Your Lane. The prints are buoyant and joyful, attentive to the fragile balance within these shared environments.
Custodian suggests that parks and recreational spaces are held in trust, cared for on behalf of the public and for the benefit of nature itself. Across the seasons, Leonard’s etchings trace shifting textures of foliage, light, and water, quietly acknowledging the labour and stewardship that sustain these spaces and keep them accessible.
Louise Leonard has been a member of Graphic Studio Dublin for many years, working primarily in copper-plate etching to create finely detailed, tonally rich prints. Her work has been widely exhibited and is held in public and private collections in Ireland and internationally, including the National Gallery of Ireland, Trinity College Dublin, Queen’s University Belfast, the OPW, and University College Dublin.
Custodian continues her long-standing engagement with water, green space, and the subtle beauty of everyday landscapes.
The exhibition is open Tuesday–Saturday. 11am – 5pm. For further information, press images, or interview requests, please contact the gallery at gallery@graphicstudiodublin.com
