Info
\”As emerging curators, and members of Graphic Studio Dublin, we are delighted that Graphic Studio Gallery is showcasing the projects we presented at IMPACT, International Printmaking Conference in Bristol last year. We feel these exhibitions, exploring Print\’s relationships with the natural and the networked world, form an exciting survey of contemporary printmaking\”
Aoife Scott & Ria Czerniak LeBov
Scott’s exhibition Geomancy features the work of 16 studio members and visiting artists and explores the links between printmaking and the natural world, while Czerniak-LeBov’s Oscillation, based on her recently published paper Irish Printmakers in the Age of Digital Reproduction explores the relationship between old and new technologies.
These curatorial debut exhibitions will run concurrently, we hope that you will join us for the opening.
Official opening:
Thursday 2nd February, 6pm
Kindly supported by Poachers Mixers
Aoife Scott’s Geomancy takes inspiration from the ancient art of divination which interprets markings on the ground, formed by tossed soil, rocks or sand. Inspired by the poetry of Paula Meehan, this selection of fine art prints explores the medium of printmaking through the prism of the natural world, highlighting the links and harmonies in our symbiotic relationship. Scott invited artists to contribute to this timely and important conversation, examining the roles and responsibilities we bear as we navigate the world around us. The resulting exhibition asks both printmaker and viewer to look more closely at the marks we leave behind.

Ria Czerniak-LeBov’s Oscillation focuses on the relationship between analogue and digital technologies. Throughout this exhibition screen grabs, glitches, YouTube stills and GPS routes are transformed from pixel to print, in a wide range of traditional techniques. The influence of new media on the hand-made, original print is visible across these diverse artistic practices. Far from rendering the work on paper obsolete, digital technologies are seen by these artists as rich sources of inspiration from which to draw. By taking throwaway, fleeting, digital ephemera and recontextualising it, these works can be seen to resist the accelerated speed with which we consume the contemporary image.
